DiskPearl guide
Looking for a Mac disk cleaner? Start with what takes up space.
When your MacBook is running out of storage, the useful question is not how many files a cleaner can delete. It is which files you no longer need, and what removing them will change.
Check storage before choosing a cleaner
Open System Settings → General → Storage on macOS 13 or later. If Downloads or old applications account for most of the space, you may be able to solve the problem with the tools already on your Mac. If System Data is large or the largest folders are hard to find, a disk map can help you investigate.
What makes a good Mac cleaner?
Look for a free scan that lets you inspect the result before paying; folder sizes and paths you can understand; explanations of known folders; an explicit confirmation before removal; and a clear distinction between disposable files and valuable data. Check compatibility, licence terms and whether the app uploads any information. A claim to recover a fixed number of gigabytes cannot tell you what is available on your particular Mac.
How DiskPearl helps you choose
DiskPearl maps your disk and highlights folders associated with System Data. The free version provides the scan, disk map and category totals. The paid licence adds folder details, a cleaning plan, duplicate detection, applications and leftovers, and moves the items you select to the macOS Trash. AI explanations are optional; they use your chosen service or a local model. DiskPearl is for macOS 13 Ventura or later.
A practical clean-up sequence
Start by scanning and reviewing the largest folders. Inspect old downloads and installers, then unused applications and their data. Review duplicate candidates before removing any copy. For a technical folder, read its purpose and the effect of removal first. Keep current projects and backups you still rely on. Move only the items you have decided to remove to the Trash, then check that the files and apps you use still work.
Moving files to the Trash is a review step
DiskPearl does not empty the Trash for you. The selected files remain there until you empty it, and you can restore them while they are still available. Emptying the Trash is permanent and is the step that releases storage occupied by those files. Make a backup before removing data you could need again.
Disk cleaner or memory cleaner?
Disk storage and RAM are different resources. DiskPearl helps you manage stored files; it does not purge RAM or promise to make every slow Mac faster. If your concern is memory pressure rather than a full startup disk, use the memory guide below.
Common questions
Can I scan my Mac for free?
Yes. DiskPearl provides a free scan, disk map and category totals, without a time limit. Cleaning actions require the paid licence.
Will a cleaner fix every slow Mac?
No. A full disk, memory pressure and a demanding application are different problems. Check the cause before choosing a tool.
